2008 Brisbane Food and Wine Show

by Aussie Wine Guy 13. November 2008 17:07

Another big year for the Food and Wine show and this year we participated in the event in Brisbane. Unlike last year, we were smart and bought Riedel Masterclass tickets in advance.

It's a great deal - as you get to keep the wine glasses. It cost $120 per person, and each person walked away with a Burgundy (which we tasted Pinot Noir from), Bordeaux, Chardonnay (Montrachet) and Sauvignon Blanc glass (of the highly praised Vinum series) each.

On top of that, we all sampled some excellent wine from the show. Unfortunately, I was not able to record which wines we sampled, but the exercise did teach us just how much influence the glass has on even a mid-range wine.

Later, we returned for an afternoon sampling with Matt Skinner who presented six red wines. We tasted:

  • Innocent Bystander Sangiovese Merlot 2006,
  • Climbing Merlot 2006,
  • Majella Shiraz 2006*,
  • Scarpantoni Block 3 Shiraz,
  • Punt Road Shiraz 2005, and,
  • Goundrey G Shiraz Viogner 2005 (my favourite in the session)

* was scheduled to be the Cabernet Sauvignon which was pulled after winning a number of medals recently
