Hi Everyone,

Last Monday, we welcomed a new addition to the Aussie Wine Guy family – literally.  In the early hours of the 13th of February, Aussie Wine Guy introduced the world to Aussie Wine Guy, Jr.

Both Baby and Mum are doing very well, culminating in a very challenging yet rewarding week.  Once things get back to normal the reviews will resume – starting with the remaining McLaren Vale 1970 Cabernet Shiraz!

Best,

AWG

From everyone who contributes to the Aussie Wine Guy site, we wish you all the very best for this holiday season, and hope you have many happy returns in 2012.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

AWG

Hi Everyone,

There are some wine related events on the horizon, and Aussie Wine Guy will be there.  There is a backlog of wine tasting notes to get through, and hopefully some of those will be published across this grand final long weekend.

We hope you are enjoying the slow progression to a warmer climate as Spring begins in earnest.  It is (sadly) almost time to bid farewell to the stronger, full bodied, Shiraz and to start welcoming those summer wines.

Soon we’ll be quaffing white zinfandel, verdelho, semillon and perhaps even the odd chardonnay or two.  Before you know it, it’ll be right up on the holiday season.  Stay tuned for more tasting notes and ideas for Christmas celebrations.

Best, AWG

Tomorrow night we’ll be reviewing one or two key wine bars in the Sydney CBD area. To prepare, we’ll be reviewing the breadth and depth of the wine list at each location, making note of the variety (by region and by type) age and price. We’ll be posting some likely targets tomorrow, so if you’re curious come and take a look. On the weekend, check back for the notes and reviews. We’ll have recommendations to suit various budgets, tastes and…. dress codes! Other factors we will consider when reviewing each venue includes the ambiance, the knowledge of the Sommeliers and staff and the presentation. Special points will be awards, say, if a specific variety (e.g. Bordeaux) is served an an appropriate glass shape or quality :) Stay tuned.

Lately we’ve been finding it hard to organise a decent outing to a wine bar, cellar door or decent restaurant. This has, in turn, led to a slight reduction in the amount of reviews we’ve been writing. To remedy this unsightly situation, we’ve been thinking of organising a wine event in the Sydney CBD for some time in the next month or so. If you are handy to the Sydney CBD and you would care for a night of wine appreciation with other like-minded individuals (including Aussie Wine Guy himself) please get in touch before August 15th to register interest. You may use the contect page, or simply leave a comment expressing interest. Then, check back or watch our Facebook page for further announcements! Best, AWG

Please accept our apologies for the lack of activity.  We’ve recently relocated back into the heart of downtown Sydney, and it has taken several weeks to get re-established.  We will be posting numerous new reviews in the coming weeks, so check back shortly.

Regards, AWG

Yesterday AWG and his faithful wife were lightly travelling through the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. No strangers to the area, we went straight to a pair of our favourite vineyards – Tyrrell’s and Tullock wines.

We dined at Amanda’s Restaurant (Amandas on the Edge) at lunchtime, before several hours of progressive wine tasting. There will be tasting notes and photos to follow in subsequent posts, so please check back later. We finished the day at Cafe Enzo sipping some excellent coffee before returning to Newcastle.

Plenty of new information, especially reviews of the sublime Hunter Valley Semillion, coming to Aussie Wine Guy shortly. We hope you are enjoying the end of summer.. or winter.. no matter where you are located in the world!

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Aussie Wine Guy’s new sister site Aussie Wine Sales.  The new site is aimed at providing options and information for locating quality wine, predominantly Australian, and provide tips on wine auctions, online retail options and more.

Aussie Wine Guy will continue to focus on wine reviews and wine accessories.  Our new sister site will provide that extra coverage, and hopefully allow you to take advantage of a wide variety of special offers and promotions.

Sincerely.. AWG

Well, it’s been too long since Aussie Wine Guy and his darling wife have last set off on a wine infused journey.  Never fear, the time has come, once again, and AWG will be wine tasting and travelling very shortly.

One of the best ways to experience good wine is to be bold and take a journey abroad.  The inviting cultures and interesting and exciting blend of exotic food make the experience one hard to pass up on.  Whether it is making your way through an established wine region such as California’s Napa Valley or blazing a trail through the mountains of Chile, there are plenty of ways to experience life and good wine!

Stay tuned for more information!
